Bare Boned Theatre is proud to announce the world premiere of The Hecubae! Playwrights Rebekah Walendzak and Jeffrey Bouthiette have created a wholly new narrative uniting Euripides’ classic tragedy Hecuba with a modern day refugee camp. The production will debut on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the West Stage of the Raven Theatre Complex (6157 North Clark Street). Director Jeffrey Bouthiette and an ensemble of seven women explore the question, “What remains after war?” Their narrative weaves the setting and style of Euripides’ tale with stories of contemporary refugees to parallel and illustrate the plight of women prisoners of war across history. Utilizing improvisational techniques and dramaturgical research from current refugee situations, the playwrights have collaborated with the cast of The Hecubae to develop an original theatrical work. |
